October 2025 – President’s Message

By Karen Flores, President

The first day of fall has officially come! Wow, the summer really went by fast! This fall is bittersweet as we bid goodbye to one of our star members, Doug Brees. Doug has purchased a home in Virginia, and he will be moving very soon. We thanked him at the September meeting and gave him a plaque noting all of the wonderful things he has done for PRS! Doug – you will be missed for sure!

We have assembled our nominating committee for the 2026 slate of officers. We will have some officer and board positions open for 2026, so if you would like to get involved just let me know and I can give you more details on what is expected for the various roles. It is fun to be part of planning how our Society evolves and changes, and you get to meet many fun and interesting people.

We also attended the NCNH district meeting, which was a great meeting with guest speaker Tom Caruth. They announced that PRS will host the NCNH show next May, which is very exciting! Stuart picked up a huge number of roses from Burling at the meeting, and he is holding a potting up party at his home on 10/4 – we sell these roses at our sale to offset the costs of the show, so please plan to come and help out!

We will also need foster growers to help keep the roses watered and cared for until the sale, so please offer to take some – even a few will help! And lastly, there is the Show Coordinating Committee – anyone is welcome to join. The next call will be 10/3 – details will be provided in this month’s newsletter. So, lots to do over the fall and winter months as our roses take a rest!

We have a great meeting in October, so I hope to see you all there!
