August is here and I hope all of you are enjoying your garden and taking advantage of the extended daylight hours. I know that with the continuing drought many of us have cut back on watering our gardens; hopefully, they are still producing beautiful roses and other flowers to enjoy as we wander through our gardens.
Our annual picnic was a big success. It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous setting. We are so thankful to Priya Kamath for allowing us to have our picnic in her beautiful backyard. An added bonus was the opportunity to view her spectacular rose garden. We also were able to welcome our new member, Lou Salerno and his wife Imelda. With all the talented cooks in PRS, the food was delicious and plentiful. Special thanks to Jill and her helpers for doing a great job setting up.
Barry Johnson presented the society with a $275 check as second prize from the San Mateo County Fair. Congratulations and many thanks to Barry and his brother Brian for setting up and spending many hours at the fair with their rose display and promoting our Society.
After the break in July, our monthly membership meetings will resume on August 21st with our own Barry Johnson leading a celebration of our 60th anniversary. The program will include a slide show and talks by some of our long-time members.
Continue to enjoy the nice weather and don’t forget to visit nearby rose gardens during your summer travels.
