While we all wish for more rain, the beautiful weather we’ve been having has been ideal for getting out into our garden to prune our roses, spray and plant new roses. Be sure to buy your new roses now and shovel prune those that have not done well. The selection is usually good at this time of year, although bare root roses may already be potted up and a bit more expensive than when they were bare root.

Thanks to Barry Johnson for putting together a great pruning demonstration program at our January meeting. Jerry Georgette brought in his cadre of rose pruning tools to explain their use and Stuart Dalton gave a great pruning demonstration. Thanks also to Marie Hubbell for demonstrating the correct way to prune miniature roses.

As we do every year, our rose society has made a significant community contribution through our efforts in pruning the Palo Alto VA Rose Gardens. All this hard work will be rewarded when springtime arrives.

Please plan on attending our February meeting on February 20. Barry Johnson will present the slide show he was unable to show at our Christmas pot luck covering 2014 because of technical difficulties. He will also show slides from the Christmas party and the recent pruning at the Palo Alto VA. Jerry Georgette will give a brief history of our involvement with the Palo Alto VA rose garden and Consulting Rosarians will also be available to answer your questions.
