The warm weather we’ve been having has caused my roses to leaf out early; I even have blooms on some of my hybrid teas! As I walk around my garden, I feel such a sense of anticipation looking at all my leafy roses and imaging the glorious roses that will shortly be gracing them.
As we head into March, we can take a breather from all our pruning, spraying, weeding and general cleanup, and look forward to beautiful blooms as we watch our roses grow into healthy bushes.
The pruning at the Palo Alto VA has been completed. Many thanks to all those who participated. When these roses bloom, they will put many smiles on our Veterans’ faces.
Our Vice President Barry Johnson jumped in in my absence to run the February Membership meeting. Barry presented the 2014 PRS slide show that we normally see at our December installation dinner. Due to technical difficulties and a busy January meeting, the slide show was postponed until February. Jerry Georgette also presented new roses for 2015 and entertained all with a rose quiz.
This month Dave Peterson will discuss how a healthy soil can contribute to your roses health and beauty come Spring.
Soon will be our 58th Annual Rose Show on May 3, 2015. Luckily, the process is a “well-oiled machine,” as many of our members have been doing this for many years. It’s an opportunity for newer members to become more involved and get to know other members better. Any amount of help is appreciated, so please let Sandee Kolter, Jerry Georgette or myself know when you’re available and what you can do. Mark the morning of Saturday, May 2nd down for set-up.
