As I write this message, my roses are in full glorious bloom. It has been such a delight to walk through my garden in the freshness of the early morning and discover which roses are newly blossomed.
Hopefully, I will have some specimens ready for our Annual Rose Show on May 3. Our rose show not only showcases our members’ talents of growing beautiful roses and putting together creative arrangements, but gives us a chance to work together as a team to put on a project that is enjoyed by many. Many thanks to Sandra Kolter, Jerry Georgette and myself for co-chairing the Rose Show, and to all the other committee chairs and volunteers who have stepped up to help in this endeavor.
Our Annual Rose Show is always so popular with the community, and gives people an opportunity to see what roses do well in this area. Our rose raffles always create a great deal of excitement. The show also gives our members an opportunity to try their hand at exhibiting roses and creating rose arrangements, a valuable learning experience. Remember that if you enter, you may very well be a winner!
Many thanks to our Carol Wong, who presented pointers on preparing roses for exhibiting and explained how to fill out the entry tags. It was a treat to have Carol, last year’s Queen of the Show winner, to share her winning secrets.
Rose show awards will be given out at our May membership meeting on May 15th. Looking ahead, get your cameras out to capture your rose beauties in bloom, as our June meeting will be a presentation by PRS members of photos of their favorite roses.
Take the opportunity to walk among your roses with your first cup of coffee in the morning to get a fragrant and peaceful start to your day.
“The fragrance always remains in the hand that gives the rose.”
